Dadaocheng Taipei

Dadaocheng is the oldest district in Taipei. The access from the East China Sea via the Tamsui river enabled the entry and exit of goods to and from Taipei so that over a hundred years ago it is already an important port here.

Most of all, trading of dried goods, medical herbs and especially tea took place in the Dihua Street. Some of the shops have survived until today since they were set up in 1850. Dihua Street also turns into the major market for new year shopping. We have visited the area on new year's day, most of the shops were closed but still a big crowd was there.

At the end of the Dihua Street we reached the Tamsui river where Dadaocheng Wharf is located. Travel guides all point out that this is the current hip place. However, we just found some containers offering street food.
